Valentia Chair: Tradition and Innovation in Harmony
This piece is deeply rooted in Ireland's rich cultural heritage, and is a blend of creativity, historical essence, and pioneering design principles. Its birthplace is the Valentia Slate quarry on Valentia Island in Co.Kerry, where the resilient stone emerges from the rugged terrain of the island's mountain.
The oldest quarry in Ireland, it serves as the main source of inspiration for the Valentia Chair. When visiting the island some months prior, we came to find out about the quarry and its monumental impact on architectural history, having supplied slate, which is known for its unparalleled durability and natural insulating properties, for the construction of landmarks such as Westminster's Houses of Parliament and the Paris Opera House.

The inherent qualities of the slate, which is celebrated for its strength and eco-friendliness, make it an ideal choice for conscientious design, ensuring minimal environmental impact in its production.

The two structural stones are handcrafted in-house by skilled quarry masons, and the robust steel frame is seamlessly integrated and secured with four bolts - creating a harmonious marriage of structural integrity and aesthetic allure.
